Afterwards, I had a short, but very powerful private meeting with Alex. He shared with me an idea that has stuck with me ever since.
TEACH TACTICS, SELL TOOLS
Most coaches and trainers teach their clients how to do something – they teach them the processes, strategy and tactics required to be successful.
But they stop there.
Alex has helped co-create or co-sponsor the development of many tools that online marketers use on a daily basis. Doing so, he shared, has 2 huge benefits.
- You create a resource that your clients can use to help them better implement your training, creating a secondary income stream.
- You can monetize the inevitable theft of your content!
The first is an obvious one – if you can get your clients to use tools that you create (or that you use and recommend for a commission) then you help them implement your training while adding more revenue to your business.
The second is less obvious.
If you create and sell information products, whether through group coaching, home study, online video, ebooks, etc, your content will eventually be shared “illegally.”
That is, one person will buy your ebook and send it to their friend. Or they’ll share their private username & password to your online training area.
FIGHT THE CURRENT OR GO WITH THE FLOW?
It’s a reality if this business and you can either fight it and take extreme measures to protect it, which cost you time, energy and money…
Or you can go with the flow and ensure that you’re providing as many tools and external resources as possible so that even the people who are accessing your information without paying for it are generating a portion of your revenue by using the tools you recommend.
I hope you’ll think of ways you can recommend products and services that you already use and believe in as tools and resources for your clients in exchange for a fair commission.
